Toledo Workers will Vote on Strike

UFCW members of the bargaining committee met with the Kroger Company on Thursday June 21,  as a follow up to an 18 hour marathon set of negotiations held on June 16th.

The meeting lasted all day, and the company ultimately presented a comprehensive prposal that failed to provide a living wage for part time workers, pension contributions that would properly fund the plan, and a new benefit design for the health plan that would force members to choose between taking their children to the doctor and paying the bills. After 22 sessions the company has been unyielding in their position, and therefore a strike vote will be taken on July 2, 2007--as no other alternatives seem viable for workers at this point.
