Seattle Members, Employers Reach no Agreement on Proposals

The Puget Sound UFCW Locals' bargaining committee met with the employer on April 3, and again on April 11 to discuss non-economic issues. Although extensive discussion took place on proposals made by the Union and the employer, no agreements were reached.

UFCW members continue to focus on securing a living wage, affordable, accessible health plan coverage and a retirement security.  Member also stress the need to improve their current scheduling practices, sick pay requirements, funeral pay requirements and to maintain the "meat cutter on duty" language.

The employer continues to argue that it cannot remain competitive under the current contract, and that it needs flexibility in almost all areas of the contract. Some proposals would affect all employees, while other would affect only new hires. Talks are scheduled to resume on April 27.
