Montana Members Still A Long Way from a Contract

Montana UFCW members of Locals 4 and 8 are frustrated after yet another round of negotiations ended with no contract.  After only two days at the table with Supervalu and Safeway, negotiations broke off with members and companies remain far apart on important issues like health care and wage increases.  So far, the companies are still refusing to offer hard wage increases, and are still proposing bonuses instead.

Over the six year period of the last two contracts, Montana members have had only two hard money increases. The rest has been in bonuses. The Committee says members in their stores are fed up. They have not been able to keep up with inflation and the cost of living, even in a rural state like Montana.

No word yet on when bargaining will resume.
