Messages of Support for Southern California Workers _______________________________ "I am a union steward for local 367. I just wanted to tell you thank you for going ahead in negotiations. I am fighting for the right to stay union at all costs. I believe that unions are very important. Not only do they lift up the community but they help educate our kids to stick together as a team. Team work is everything. Please let me know if you need any more rallying. I 'll do my part and help." Sincerely, Bernadine Power _______________________________
"When this same issue was a
big part of your last contract my partner and I walked picket lines with the
workers in front of Vons in the Escondido area where we live.
During that very long strike
we did not cross any picket lines to shop and found many different places to
purchase our groceries
I hope that Von's and Ralph's
will negotiate fairly with you and we will not have to do that again. If it
is necessary we will do it gladly. More people need to stand up for what is
fair and just. There are too many CEO's getting millions of dollars in
bonuses while the people who make the company's product are making minimal
wages.
In solidarity,
Grace Sloan"
___________________________________________ "I simply
wanted to let all my Union Brothers and Sisters, I am 100% behind your
negotiations. During the last strike I walked the picket line with a close
family friend at a Ralphs store in Sunland. I also walked the picket line at a
couple of other stores on my own including Vons and Albertsons. I did not shop
any of the mentioned stores during the lock out. I am not a grocery employee,
but I am behind you!" _____________________________________________
"To So CA grocery store
workers, especially in San Diego, and particularly the two Albertsons stores
on University Ave:
"My family will follow your
fight to restore good jobs in the grocery industry. We'll call & email
whoever you tell us whenever you tell us. We'll shop wherever you tell us
whenever you tell us, and if needed, bring food to picket lines. What the
companies did last time was both unjust and stupid. Hard working Americans
deserve good jobs that feed our families, have insurance for when we're
sick, and have pensions that take care of us when we're old. Period."
____________________________________________________ Bob Constantine, retired machinist union worker at San Diego's Solar Turbines, writes:
"COME ON, OWNERS OF AMERICA'S GROCERY STORES,
GIVE ALL YOUR WORKERS FIRST CHOICE OF LIVABLE WAGES, JUSTICE ON THE JOB
AND SECURITY FOR THEIR FAMILIES."
