UFCW Members in Memphis Share Frustrations
with Ohio Workers
Negotiations with Kroger continued
September 25th and 26th in Memphis, Tenn., with Local 1529 members increasingly
frustrated over Kroger's lack of movement on key issues. Just like their
brothers and sisters in Ohio, the negotiating committee in Memphis has been
irked by Kroger's slow pace.
And just as in Ohio, Kroger wants members to pay more for their health
insurance without providing more benefits.
Kroger is the market leader in the entire region that includes both
Cincinnati and Memphis, the members know that they're a big part of that
success. So they're wondering why Kroger is refusing to share the success
with their workers.
"We're the backbone of the company," says Sonya McKnight, a 32-year
Kroger employee and Local 1529 UFCW member. "Kroger ought to know that when
you invest in your people, you invest in your company."
Negotiations are continuing this week.
