Kroger Negotiations Begin Today for Houston Members

Some 12,000 UFCW Local 455 members in the Houston area will be starting negotiations with Kroger Company today, as will about 700 meatcutters in Local 408.

Their contracts with Kroger aren't set to expire until the end of March, but representative members and Local staff have been meeting as a bargaining committee, and will begin talks with Kroger Co. today.  "Quality, affordable health care is the big issue for our members," said Local 455 President William Hopkins.  "We'll also be looking at securing wage increases, and of course, improving the pension."

Houston members are going into bargaining confident that they will have the support of other UFCW grocery workers, in communities and stores all over the nation.
