Houston Members Vote Overwhelmingly to Authorize a Strike at Kroger if Necessary

Last night, members of UFCW Local 455 and 408 voted to allow the bargaining committee and the Union negotiators the authority to call a strike if necessary. Members of Local 455 voted with 97% approval of the authorization while Local 408 members voted 100% in favor of the authorization.

" This is a good show of solidarity amongst our members and the members of 455 when it comes to our bargaining goals," said Chad Young, Trustee of Local 408 and UFCW International Vice President.

Local 455 President and International Vice President Bill Hopkins agreed, adding "Throughout these negotiations our bargaining committee has not wavered from what is important for a renewed agreement and now the company knows our membership feels the same."

Both Unions and Kroger are scheduled to meet today for another negotiation session.
