Cincinnati Grocery Workers to Stand Strong, Take Strike Vote

UFCW Local 1099 members in Cincinnati are standing strong in the fact of an unacceptable proposal by the Kroger Company.  Local staff and members have been bargaining in good faith with the company for months now, and they are concerned that company is not responding to their demands with the same good faith.

At this time, UFCW members contract has expired and Kroger shows no signs of attempting to bargaining seriously for a fair contract with UFCW members. Members are planning to sign a contract extension, and show their solidarity and strength by taking a strike vote on Wednesday.

No one wants a strike, not workers or shoppers or the company--but UFCW members feel the Kroger Company is aiming to force them out into the streets and are responding with unity and strength in the face of Kroger's insulting offer. Workers are standing strong for quality, affrordable health care, retirement security, and wages that pay the bills.

The strike vote will take place on Wednesday, with results to be announced following.
