SoCal Grocery Workers Demand Fair Treatment

Who: Over 70,000 UFCW members working in Southern California's grocery stores

What:
Workers have ratified a fair contract with their employers in Southern California.

When:
UFCW members in Southern California voted on ratification on Sunday, July 22nd.

What's At Stake:
UFCW Southern California locals' spokesman Mike Shimpock said members  essentially sought the same terms as those included in the recent contracts with Stater Bros. and Gelson's.  In the end, due to the incredible solidarity and community support,  national companies like Ralphs (Kroger), Vons (Safeway) and Albertsons (Supervalu) agreed to extend affordable health care, fair and equitable wages, and solid pensions to employees. UFCW members, businesses, and customers all win with this contract, since better wages and opportunties means less turnover at these stores.
