Kroger’s First Proposals Unacceptable for
Houston Workers

UFCW Local 455 grocery and 408 meat department members in Houston have been meeting with Kroger officials.  Discussions have centered on what Kroger calls “ non-economic” issues.  Kroger has stated demands to eliminate daily overtime, (an economic issue), to extend the probationary period for new hires, and to change the hours needed for full-time employee designation, among other regressive first proposals.
Local 455 President William Hopkins said “The bargaining committees know these items are off limits for negative change and are keeping up a united front.” Local 408 Trustee and UFCW International Vice President/ Regional Director Chad Young states that Local 408 members are geared up to keep their departments intact and their identity strong, and to preserve the skills they have using tools of the trade.

The next bargaining session is set for March 19.
