Portland workers stand
together
Approximately 5200 workers in Grocery, Meat, and Combination
Food/Non-Food Checkout (CCK) who are represented by UFCW Local 555 are
currently in negotiations in the Portland area with The New Albertsons,
Inc., Fred Meyer, Inc. (Kroger), and Safeway, Inc.
Members have been in bargaining since July 16th. Workers are
standing strong together for issues related to the full Maintenance of
Benefits for Health and Welfare, scheduling practices that will allow
senior workers to access more hours, an article to allow vacation to be
taken 1 day at a time if desired, an increase in the pension
contribution, a 3-year contract with journeyperson wage increases of $1
per hour for each year of the contract, substantial increases in the
progression rates, and a card check agreement.
UPDATE: The bargaining session scheduled for August 28th was
cancelled by the employers. Please check back with groceryworkersunited.org
for future updates.
