Evening Update March 26, 2008

UFCW Locals 400 and 27 met with Giant Food and Safeway on Wednesday, March 26, 2008.  Economic proposals were presented by the Companies and reviewed. 

“Unfortunately little progress has been made,”  reports UFCW Local 400 President C. James Lowthers, and the parties remain very far apart.  Bargaining will resume on Thursday, March 27, 2008, and are scheduled for Friday, March 28, 2008, Saturday, March 29, 2008, and Sunday, March 30, 2008. Negotiations will continue until a final proposal is received, which will then be presented to you Tuesday, April 1, 2008.

Strike preparations are now in place.

Many groups throughout the Metropolitan area, including churches, religious leaders, and elected leaders continue to support the members of Locals 400 and 27 in our quest for justice and a fair and equitable contract agreement.
