Bargaining Continues for
Baltimore/DC Workers
The UFCW Local 400 & 27 Bargaining Committee met with Giant and Safeway for
three days last week, and will meet with the companies Wednesday, Thursday
and Friday this week.
Grocery workers
across the nation will be showing their support and solidarity for Local 400
and Local 27 by wearing stickers starting later this week.
Negotiations are slow. The companies are continuing to insist on
“give backs” that the
union considers unacceptable. The main areas of discussion, and contention,
are:
- Pension Issues
- Health and Welfare Issues
- Wage Issues
- New Hire Issues
- Vendor Issues
- New Technology Issues
- Other important issues
Members are continuing to
stand strong and speak together in order to achieve their goals--affordable,
quality health care and a living wage for all grocery workers of Local
27 and Local 400.
