UFCW Local 342 member working at Stop & Shop voted overwhelmingly to approve a new contract. Voting took place today March 1, 2008 from 6:00 am to 7:30 pm at the Local 342 Area Offices. Local 342 members and staff worked very hard and stuck together for good wages, quality, affordable healthcare, and a secure pension. They are proud of their work on this contract and want to thank all of the Stop & Shop members who showed up throughout the day to cast their vote and take part in the process. Members working at Waldbaum’s, Food Emporium and Pathmark are continuing to meet with those companies to discuss the proposal that is on the table by the Union. The Union has made a final proposal on the wages and on the retirement supplement. The companies and the Union are still far apart on the annuity and the pension, and members are standing strong to secure a dignified retirement for grocery workers.
